MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP IS A THRIVING AREA IN Southern SOMERSET COUNTY NEW JERSEY. RICH IN BOTH FARMLAND AND HISTORY THIS PEACEFUL TOWN OFFERS A MODERN LIFESTYLE WITH THAT IRREPLACEABLE and Hard to find FARM FRESH AIR.
Named in honor of Colonel Richard Montgomery who died on a revolutionary War Battlefield, Montgomery has a rich history. He and 20 other Montgomery residents are known to have served in the revolutionary war.
Since its birth in 1798 after being known as “Western Precinct” for many years, Montgomery, has been forever developing, all while being able to accumulate some rather charming characteristics and things to do.
Montgomery encompasses a total of 32 square miles and knows how to use its land wisely as it combines 8000 acres of farming residents with lots of happy non-farming residents and suburban areas. Having everything from restaurants, fitness centers, and shopping to golf courses.
Montgomery has a median household income of $129,150 and residents are easily able to spend that money either in town at one of the local farmers markets, restaurants or they can take a short drive to nearby downtowns like SOMERVILLE, PRINCETON, or Hopewell. OR you can easily venture just a bit further to major metro areas like New York City or Philadelphia using a high speed train from Princeton Junction Train Station.
Montgomery Township is known for their School District especially, their High School which is a 4 star, state of the art facility hosting over 1,600 students from all of Montgomery which includes unincorporated communities such as Skillman, Belle Mead, Blawenburg, Harlingen & even Rocky Hill & some Princeton addresses which are part of Montgomery school district. Montgomery also, recently completed a BRAND NEW state of the art municipal center and library for residents to use. You have to see it believe it.
Montgomery offers its residents a wide variety of physical fitness options including; Orange Theory, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a tennis club & Pilates. They also have 3 separate golf courses; Cherry Valley Country Club…..Bedens Brook Country Club……and Mattawang Golf Club, which is known for Jack Nicklaus’ still unbroken course record of 62. I believe my course is 162 so feel free to beat that if you’d like.
We understand golf may not be for everyone but who doesn’t like parks? Montgomery township is home to some rather spacious parks, even some for dogs. There’s Skillman Park…….the Montgomery veterans park……..Van Horne Park……Cherry Brooke Reserve…..Hobler Park…..and Zion Crossing Park. The town is also located on the south side of Sourland Mountains which opens up lots of hiking opportunities! Every kind of park for whatever adventure you choose.
When you’re hungry and don’t feel like cooking after a long day, even when you just grocery shopped at the local World Class ShopRite or Farmers Market there are plenty of convenient and delicious places to eat. There’s the renowned Rocky Hill inn……The One 53……Tiger’s Tale, which has both good food but good night life……the locally owned Blawenburg Bistro with fresh local ingredients…..Aja Asian Cuisine an extremely popular sushi spot….Genteel’s Brick Oven Pizza & Ristorante……and New World Pizza, which is the only pizzeria in Skillman New Jersey, thankfully its good. There are quite a few popular ethnic options which include Ya Ya Noodles making fresh house made noodles daily……the Sahara Restaurant which is anything but deserted!
Touching the border of Montgomery is Hopewell New Jersey and along that border you’ll find great local hotspots The Brick Farm Tavern…..The Peasant Grill…..and community loved Sourland Mountain distillery.
Montgomery is also very close to downtown Princeton, known for its University (of course), theaters and restaurants. AND a few minutes from there is Princeton Junction known for its high speed and direct trains for commuting to New York or Philadelphia.
Montgomery is a quiet town with a lot to offer, but with a population of just over 23,000 people, it doesn’t seem like too many people know about it. But maybe once you live here, you’ll want to keep it a secret too.
